Isn't it nice to know that we do indeed deserve the best that life has to offer?! The problem is we often don't give ourselves permission to accept it. So often, we short change ourselves.
Why is it that we are so down on ourselves? It may because we feel that we don't deserve to have good things happen to us, so we don't allow the good things to come.
Deserving has the connotation that you have done something that entitles you to receive something in return. You do something bad, and therefore deserve punishment. Or maybe something bad happens and you are left wondering what you
did to make it happen, that you didn’t deserve it. Other times, if something wonderful happens, you may feel humbled because you feel you did nothing to necessitate it.
Deserving really has nothing to do with actions. Deserving has everything to do with being. We don't deserve something because we have done something good or bad. The
common thread in the dictionaries for the word 'Deserve' is say that to that the word means to "be worthy of" or just "to be worthy". In my mind, something of worth is something of value. So, to be deserving, means you need to be something of value. What could be more valuable then each of us, then our own individual existence?
The problem is, that so often our behaviour is not always be up to snuff. We get confused with the things we do equating who we are.
Now, I am not condoning that we can do what ever we want, no matter what the consequences are. If our actions hurt others, we are only hurting ourselves. But no matter what we do, it does not take away from our own intrinsic value. No matter what we do, we are still of value, to ourselves and the rest of the world.
When we recognize our value, see that we are of worth and open ourselves to receiving the best that life has to offer, the result is that we will become the best we can be, which in turn with make us happier and more fulfilled,
which in turn will flow out to those around us.
Feeling undeserving of the best is accepting that you are less then you can be, it is a false humility and in my mind, one of the worst behaviours you can possibly exhibit.
As Lanie Pambid says, "every human being is deserving of the best that life has to offer; love, care, respect, consideration ... The key is to understand that this abundance can be freely available to all."
Expecting the best in our lives and as a result becoming the best, will help us to overcome the worst in us. It's time to allow ourselves to be open to all that life has to offer us.
It may be because we feel that we don't deserve to have good things happen to us, so we don't allow the good things to come.
Why is it that we are so down on ourselves? What is at the root of feeling like crap.
It's time to allow ourselves to be open to all that life has to offer us.
